When a family member dies, the pain is often compounded by a difficult division. A house that some want to sell and others don't. A sibling who lives in the parents' apartment. Accounts that no one quite understands, or someone who feels harmed by the will. If not discussed in time, an inheritance can end up in court and damage family relationships forever. Conciliation in hereditary successions offers a neutral and confidential space to resolve it through discussion. The objective is twofold: to ensure that the family does not break up and that everyone receives what is due to them. In which cases can it help you? – Distributing the assets of the inheritance between siblings or other heirs. – Deciding what to do with an inherited property: selling it, renting it out or awarding it to one of the heirs, compensating the others. – Disagreements about the interpretation of the will or about the legitimacy. – Use of an inheritance asset by a single heir, and pending expenses and income. – Blockages to accept the inheritance, sign before a notary or settle taxes. How does it work? The sessions can be individual and/or joint. We listen to each party and study the situation. We then help you reach an agreement or propose possible solutions, taking into account Catalan inheritance law and, where applicable, the tax consequences of each option. The agreement can be recorded in writing so that it can be formalized later. Why is it worth it? – It preserves the family relationship. – It is faster and cheaper than a judicial procedure for the division of the inheritance. – It is confidential: family matters remain in the family. – Before filing most civil lawsuits, you must have tried an appropriate means of dispute resolution (MASC). Conciliation meets this requirement. We hold face-to-face sessions in Girona, Figueres and Caldes de Montbui, or remotely via videoconference. We respond to each request within a maximum of 48 business hours with a proposed date, modality and budget.
