Conciliation: a neutral space to find solutions

When a conflict arises, each side usually digs into its own position. Conversations become tense, communication breaks down and it seems the only way out is the courts. Conciliation offers an alternative: a neutral space where the parties can sit down and look for a solution together.
What does a neutral space mean?
It means that the conciliator does not represent either party or hand down any judgment. Their role is to be impartial: to listen, structure the discussion and help find common ground. It is a place where people can talk calmly, without the pressure and rigidity of court proceedings.
A confidential space
What is said in conciliation is confidential. This allows the parties to speak freely, explain what really concerns them and explore options without fear that their words will later be used against them.
An active search for solutions
Conciliation is not just a space to talk: it is a space to find solutions. The conciliator helps the parties move beyond their initial positions and identify what each of them really needs. They can also propose specific alternatives that neither party may have considered. The final decision, however, always rests with the parties.
Why it is worth it
Time: an agreement can be reached much faster than a court judgment.
Cost: most of the expense of litigation is avoided.
Control: it is the parties, not a third party, who decide how the conflict ends.
Relationship: the personal or business relationship is preserved, whereas a lawsuit often destroys it for good.
What if there is no agreement?
If no agreement is reached, nothing is lost: the attempt at negotiation required by law is on record and the matter can go to court. And if there is an agreement, it is put in writing and can be made enforceable.
